When I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May of 2009, I was devastated. I felt a sense of apprehension, but I knew I had to do something about the situation. Initially, I did some research on-line, and then I drove around the area to learn more. At one facility, I was given a packet of information - still I needed more. I needed a physician and team I could count on so I turned to Radiation Oncology of Northern Illinois (RONI) at the Fox River Cancer Center.
As a new patient, I did not know what to expect. Then I spoke with the nurse and my now radiation oncologist, Dr. Kevin Khater. I felt ease from the very beginning. Dr. Khater took the time to sit with me and listen to what I had to say. He personally gave me a tour of the facility and introduced me to his entire staff. Instantly, I felt as if I were a part of this exceptional team. The overall atmosphere is relaxing and very warm; this is extremely important when receiving treatment. Every kind of support system a person needs can be found at RONI. It’s all about hope there.
Dr. Khater and his remarkable staff focused on my individual needs, all the while making me feel comfortable and well taken care of. To experience this journey with such a compassionate and supportive group of dedicated people makes me count my blessings. Not once have I felt alone in my journey to achieving breast cancer survivorship.
RONI was there for me and they are available for anyone else needing their care. Definitely, I received the most advanced treatment options available without having to travel a distance. The technology, the staff, and all they are doing on behalf of cancer treatment, I am grateful them.
As I continue to take this challenge day by day, it is met with much more ease due to the efforts of the wonderful, capable, and considerate staff at Radiation Oncology of Northern Illinois at the Fox River Cancer Center. I am proud to be a RONI patient!
